Steel Structure For Road Signs
Scope of work:
The Civicon team was responsible for the structural design of load-bearing systems for this project.
- Detailed structural design
- Preparation of fabrication and manufacturing drawings
- BIM
One of the key requirements set by the client was the use of “smart” signs, and traffic signs required to be adjustable in three directions. This posed a technical challenge, as the solution had to combine structural reliability, adjustability, and compliance with road safety standards. Our team invested significant engineering effort to develop a solution that fully met the client’s requirements while remaining efficient, safe, and practical for installation and long-term operation. The project included the design of the following structural systems:
- Full Portal Frames – spanning across the entire width of the roadway, used to support multiple traffic signs above the traffic lanes.
- Half Portal Frames – installed on one side of the road, typically applied for shorter spans or in locations with limited space.
Function:
- These structures are designed to mount traffic signs above the traffic flow, ensuring maximum visibility and reducing roadside clutter. The portal systems allow integration of multiple signs within a single structure, such as town name signs, speed limits, and directional information, while maintaining a clean and organized road environment.
